IDSDP 2024: Sport for the Promotion of Peaceful and Inclusive Societies

The International Day of Sport for Development and Peace is celebrated on April 6th each year.  This day aims to promote the importance of sports and physical activity in contributing to education, health, development, and peace worldwide. It serves as a platform to raise awareness about the positive impacts of sports in fostering social inclusion, gender equality, and youth empowerment. Celebrating International Sports Day encourages individuals and communities to engage in sports activities, promote healthy lifestyles, and advocate for the power of sports as a tool for social change.

Like the rest of the world, Diamond Sports Academy – a Project of the Kashmir Development Foundation in collaboration with schools, colleges and civil society in Tararkhel, District Sudhnoti, Azad Jammu and Kashmir  (AJK) organised sports and physical activities events to mark the  International Day of Sports for Development and Peace on 6th April.
Over 200 youth and older adults participated in six sports and physical activity events. Students from Al-Razi Science College, Kashmir Science and Commerce College, Allied Public School, Faisal Shaheed Public School and College, Mamdan Science College, and Government Degree College organised various sports and physical activities events connected with International Sports Day.

Local sports clubs, including Diamond Sports Club, Chinar Club, and Diamond Martial Arts and Fitness Club, showcased their respective talents in sports and physical activity events. A large number of people, in addition to athletes and organisers, enthusiastically watched and appreciated the programs held on International Day of Sports for Development and Peace.

The Principals and staff members of various schools and colleges emphasised the importance of this day, stating that sports are not only a guarantee of health but also a message of peace and brotherhood. They congratulated the organisers of this excellent program. Later, awards were distributed on behalf of the Kashmir Development Foundation to athletes who performed excellently in the sports and physical activities events.
